How to set up an API (Power BI)

Read our step-by-step guide below to learn how to set up an API using Power BI.

1. Open your projects

2. Select the relevant project

3. Click "CONNECTIONS"

4. Click on APIs

5. Click "ADD API"

6. Name your new API

7. Click "CONTINUE TO DATASET"

8. Select the dataset you wish to connect to

9. Switch on Endpoint Active

10. In the allowed origions section you must type '*' (just the star) and press enter

11. Click "CONTINUE TO ACCESS"

12. Click here to create a Key

13. Name the Key and give it a short description

14. Click "CREATING API KEY"

15. You can see a key has been generated here "62b077af936e4f0009b927d6"

16. Click Allowed Endpoints on and then press "UPDATING API KEY"

17. When connecting your API end point you will find the URL to connect to here

18. You can find your API key here "62b077af936e4f0009b927d6"

19. On Power BI, click 'Get data' and choose 'Web'

20. On the pop up click 'Advanced'. Now copy the URL address from Configur (click into the API on Configur) and paste it into the top box shown below. at the bottom left you will need to type 'X-API-Key" and in the box to the right of that paste the API from Configur. when you are ready press OK.

21. Now your data from Configur will be pulled into Power Bi like the example shown below.
